How to use the Atlas Terminal
The terminal is the living desk for physical infrastructure underwriting. It does not open with a thesis. It opens with evidence ordered so you can decide whether demand is real, where delivery can stop, who prints the margin, and what would prove the call wrong.
What the desk is for
Atlas Terminal is research infrastructure for capital that must clear physical delivery. Every living desk shares one versioned edition. Charts, classifications, sources, and as of dates travel together so a number never floats free of the evidence that produced it.
Use the terminal when you need to pressure test a buildout, size a position, or brief an investment committee without rebuilding context across disconnected research packs. The desk is built for allocators, lenders, family offices, and development teams who underwrite the same physical path.
The methodology
Every coverage answers the same questions in order. The order matters. Demand quality comes before stall analysis. Stall analysis comes before margin capture. Outlook and falsifiers come last so the call stays checkable after you leave the desk.
- Is demand real? Separate announced capacity from funded delivery. Score cash as real customer funded, creditworthy leverage, or circular financing so press release ambition does not pass as end buyer demand.
- Where does delivery stall? Test each step for whether failure can halt the next major milestone. Steps that can stop delivery land on the bind register. Loud headlines that cannot stop delivery alone stay off it.
- Who gets paid? Owning the scarce plant and printing the margin are scored separately. Name the physical step the rent sits on so you do not buy the choke point when someone else collects the profit.
- What kills the call? Date relief events and falsehood tests. Announced capacity is not clearance until it ships. Every forward claim should carry a named condition and a check by date.
How the layers work
The desk is staged, not shuffled. Demand boards establish what cash is actually behind the cycle. Stall boards isolate the steps that can stop delivery. Capture boards separate valve ownership from margin print. Outlook boards arm the calendar that would change the call.
Read top to bottom when you are forming a view. Jump by stage when you already know the ask. The IC summary and edition finding compress the same corpus. They are not a marketing abstract. They are the desk read in institutional English.
How to read a chart
Start with the claim the chart is designed to answer, then read the classification on every load bearing figure. Disclosed cells come from named filings or government prints. Estimated and derived cells must name the method in plain language. Honest blanks are gaps. They are not silent confirmation.
Source and as of date travel with the number. Prefer the home desk series for the coverage you are underwriting. Cross coverage pointers are for attach and context, not for inventing a second book of record.
When two charts appear to disagree, resolve against the latest as of date and the tighter classification. Do not average conflicting prints into a comfort figure. The terminal is built to keep disagreement visible until named evidence closes it.
Surfaces that drive decisions
The bind register is the stall spine. Read what can halt delivery, what evidence confirmed it, and what would ease it. A step that is painful but substitutable is not the same as a sole halt.
The gatekeeper scoreboard names who owns the scarce step and who prints on it. Use it to size exposure to rent, not to confuse process valves with investable capture.
The falsification board keeps the call honest. Enter with a named condition and a date. Leave with the same discipline. If the relief event slips or the kill condition prints, the desk expects the call to move with the evidence.
Living desks
Power and Grid and Data Centers are the living desks. Switch desks from the terminal header when your underwriting crosses campus attach and grid delivery. Shared physical gates should be read as correlated risk, not as independent calendars that happen to rhyme.
Portfolio questions still run the same four stage method across coverages. Ask whether demand quality, stall co minimums, and capture concentration stack in the same direction before you treat assets as diversifying.
A practical reading path
Begin with the edition finding and the stage that matches your ask. Confirm demand quality before you underwrite a COD path. Confirm the binding gate before you size equipment or landlord exposure. Confirm who prints before you confuse ownership of the plant with ownership of the rent.
Close on the falsifier. Write the condition that would change your mind and the date by which you will check it. That is how the terminal turns a research session into an informed decision rather than a longer set of charts.
